How to Play Roulette

If you are a fan of the old James Bond movies surely you have seen the legendary cinematic spy work his way around the roulette wheel. Perhaps this game has long since intrigued you but you were not able to understand the rules based on its presentation in the movie. This should come as no surprise. In the cinema, the game is designed to be a backdrop to the narrative. Expository tips on how to play aren't going to be mentioned on the silver screen. Here, however, we can explain the game in detail!

On a baseline level, roulette centers on betting the outcome of where a ball lands when a spinning wheel stops. The wheel has two sets of black and red numbers from one to 38. There are also two green numbers – 0 and 00 – on the wheel as well. The wheel rests atop a table where the corresponding numbers are printed. To play a bet, one puts a casino chip on the predicted number. If the wheel lands on the number the player will win. If not, then the player loses. The payoff to a winning roulette bet are huge and are generally 38 - 1. Also, one can play the colors as well placing a chip on black or red. If black or red comes up then the player wins a 1 – 1 bet. If 0 or 00 comes up then the player loses.

Then, there are a number of "off kilter" bets one can place as well such as betting on odd or even numbers; betting on groups of numbers such as 1 – 18; blocks of 12 numbers; etc. The payoff on these bets will be based the same way as other bets: on the probability of the outcome.

Roulette is basically a self-explanatory game. It is easy to get the hang of and it is quite thrilling. Hence, it is very popular.
